"I have become very close to these families and love babysitting their children, as well as seeing what the Upper East Side life entails," she said. "I would most definitely recommend this program to whoever loves children. I have nothing but good things to say about this program and the people I work for."
Another student, Elizabeth Gallagher, a freshman, shared Syskowski's sentiments. "Babysitting on the Upper East Side has been wonderful," she said. "The families I have been involved with were very sensible and friendly. I have enjoyed every job I have been on so far," said Gallagher, who works on an as-needed basis for a number of families.
"I like babysitting," she continued, "because it is fun and easy, and time flies when you're playing with kids, so if you have to work, it's ideal. The program connects you to babysitting jobs in your area, so it's convenient for both the family and yourself."
The External Affairs Offices advertises the program through fliers on both the 68th street campus and the Brookdale campus. It is also featured on the official Hunter website and the Undergraduate Student Government site, which was largely used to advertise the program in its early inception. Fliers have also been sent out to families in the community and ads have in place in community newsletters.
"We are currently working on reaching out to all the public schools, churches, and synagogues in the area so they can help let families know of our service as well," said Hochroth.
The Babysitting Pilot Program continues to expand to include more families and students. Student tutors may be an added aspect of the program, in a further effort to both reach out to the Hunter community and offer students job placements.
