Civil rights inspire performances

African-American visionaries from the obscure to the infamous lined the walls of TH 105 as part of the Black History Month decorations. Meanwhile, guests sat down to enjoy a soul food dinner consisting of macaroni and cheese, rice and beans, collard greens, fried chicken, and cornbread.

Funding All But Fee

Hunter offers emergency funding to those in need

The Petrie Emergency Fund, a sum of money to help relieve the burden of non-tuition expenses in case of loss of employment and other extenuating circumstances, is now available to Hunter College students, according to Hunter's Office of Student Services. Recognizing that the population at Hunter is no exception to the job losses and eviction notices that mark the times, the Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation has provided the emergency funding on the condition that it may not be used for expenses such as tuition or other college fees.

Vandals target minority students at Brookdale

In an unprecedented wave of race-inspired activity at Hunter's Brookdale dorms, the word "Asia" was found written on the doors of many Asian residents rooms on various floors, Resident Assistants at the most recent of monthly floor meetings said. "Whether the people who are responsible for this graffiti are doing this with malicious intent, or as a joke, it is hurting people who have lived here and needs to stop," a written letter distributed by the Resident Life Office to resident assistants said.

Hunter College students often receive pamphlets, snacks, and free condoms as they roam the hallways of the West building. On Feb. 17, though, they had even more to choose from. Handmade jewelry, raffles, bake sales, and poster-making contests, were all part of the V-Day events at Hunter.
